As a part of 24-354: Gadgetry: Sensors, Actuators, and Processors at CMU, students complete a final project at the end of the quarter to apply some of the skills and concepts learned in the course. This course reviews microcontrollers, circuit design and analysis, and sensors and actuators and serves as an introduction to mechatronic systems.
For my final project I, in a group of three, created an environment sensing nightlight, Gadgetree. Gadgetree receives sound and light input from a sound sensing circuit as well as a photoresistor/comparator circuit to output different light shows using a LED light strips.
The result is a beautiful night light, where the lights will change hue based on pitch and brightness based on volume.
